The Problem Worth Solving

Extrapolating the opinion of 1,000 people to represent millions was never a good idea. Today it is an anachronism.

Statistical extrapolation from small samples was built for a different society. One where communities were geographically concentrated, informationally homogeneous, and socially cohesive -- where the neighbor in the same street, the same age, the same income level, consumed the same newspaper, watched the same channel, and shared a broadly similar worldview.
